I have been feeling the urge to break away from my natural representational style and experiment with forms of abstraction.
The work began without preconception and remained open to change as the layers of paint transformed and progressed, but I found it difficult to leave behind my love of pattern and form...(old habits are hard to break)...and I found myself applying an arabesque style scroll motif across the top of it, so it's now a sort of hybrid post-modern abstract ;-)

I have discovered that my camera has trouble with differentiating between shades of red. In reality this painting has heaps more contrast and highlights. This is not a good photo. - I have no idea why it just will not photograph! This painting looks much better in real life...

I liked the concept of my painting "Free My Soul" so I decided to paint a sister-painting incorporating the same elements, but this time featuring Rangitoto Island, and I have re-positioned the girl and given her more movement... So it's sort of the same - but different :-)

Three canvases 910mm 510mm each. Oil. SOLD
These three weren't actually painted as a triptych, but the people who bought them have hung them together over their fireplace with a gap of about 20 cm between them (it's a BIG fireplace).
The room is painted a lovely dusky tourquiose green, and they have some pieces of furniture in burnt orange, and I must say the paintings do look amazing in that room!
